B12 deficiency is also known as hypocobalaminemia and represents the low blood level of vitamin B12. B12 deficiency can harm the nervous tissue and has a long term effect. Although B12 deficiency is a serious problem, treatments for the cure of it exists and are successfully used on patients. To treat the B12 deficiency, the organism can receive supplements through pills – sublingual pills, liquid or strip. Another option to treat B12 deficiency is with nasal sprays, transdermal patches or injection. The vitamin is available on its own or in combination with other supplements. There is a short list of substances that contain B12 – cyanocobalamin, hydroxocobalamin, methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, also known as cobamamide and dibeconzide.

Injections with the B12 vitamin can be made to patients suffering of B12 deficiency. Injections can be intramuscular or subcutaneous with hydroxocobalamin, methylcobalamin or cyanocobalamin. In the first couple of weeks of treatment, the patient will receive half a dozen injections and for maintenance, a monthly injection for the rest of his or her life. The patient can also inject himself with B12 vitamin, using a similar set of gauge, needle and syringe to the one used for self-administration of insulin by patients with diabetes. The traditional treatment for B12 deficiency involves injections, because absorption is ensured this way. The oral method is also widely accepted today, because with a sufficiently large dose of B12, the body absorbs enough vitamin. Normally, 2 milligrams per day are considered a large dose.

Recently, some researchers claimed that the intranasal and sublingual routes followed in the treatment of B12 deficiency are more successful than the swallowing of regular pills. The intranasal route has the same effect on the boy of the patient like the swallowing of a pill with a megadose of B12. The sublingual method still does not compare to the classic routes used in treatments. Of course, for patients suffering of B12 deficiency, a diet to supply them with the B12 vitamin would be great, but unfortunately this is not possible if they already have the deficiency. Anyhow, in order to avoid the B12 deficiency, people should consume either animal products which naturally contain the vitamin or synthesized pills.

Nowadays, everybody is concerned with their health, because after all, it is the most important thing that we possess. Luckily, the advances in technology made it possible for new and new treatments to emerge, and for sophisticated equipments to be invented. However, the medical field is far from being perfect. Some people often mistake one disease for another, while other diseases are still not curable. At least, not yet. Such an example is dementia, also known as Alzheimer disease. Recent studies have shown that dementia can be associated with a common disease: B12 deficiency.

While we still do not know if B12 deficiency has a role in the development of dementia, the truth is that many people confuse these two. Imagine if you just have B12 deficiency, but you are diagnosed with dementia. The chances of you getting cured will be significantly lower, especially since the treatment for B12 deficiency is very simple. You just have to take extra vitamins, aside from the food you normally get vitamin B12 from. In order to prevent B12 deficiency from happening to you, you must eat as many eggs, meats, fish, milk and vegetables as possible. Even if you do not present with any B12 deficiency symptoms, you should also eat them, to increase your B12 level. Experts say that the smaller the chances to get B12 deficiency, the smaller the risk to get dementia, as well.

As I said, this theory has not been proven scientifically yet, but in any case, preventing B12 deficiency is still the best choice you could make. You know what they say: ‘it is better to be safe than sorry’. Nevertheless, B12 deficiency can have its repercussions, as well, like tiredness, inability to focus, depression, sleep deprivation, or even a significant drop of your mental functions. You should also know that vegetarians are more likely to develop B12 deficiency, so if you do not want to eat meat, you should at least remember to take your vitamin supplements. Luckily, the pharmaceutical industry is filled with products of the kind, so until we know for sure which is the connection between B12 deficiency and dementia, better take your vitamins right.

B12 deficiency is one of the most serious conditions that affects the population nowadays. Although the symptoms may sometimes be unnoticeable, it is important to measure your B12 level every once in a while, because B12 deficiency can have severe and even fatal consequences. Knowing what causes B12 deficiency and how to prevent it is also important. Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin and it is very important for DNA cell growing, red blood cells and energy production. The insufficient level of vitamin B12 in your body leads to B12 deficiency.

There are may possible causes of B12 deficiency, but the first and most important one comes from your eating habits. People who experience a vegan diet are more likely to have B12 deficiency. Be careful not to confuse the vegan diet with the vegetarian one, because a true vegan diet will exclude all kinds of meat, fish, eggs and poultry products from the menu. These products are great vitamin B12 sources, so if the body does not get enough, the B12 deficiency may occur. Then, as the vitamin is absorbed by the digestive system, stomach and intestines problems are also common B12 deficiency causes. Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, pernicious anemia, all these are conditions that could cause B12 deficiency as well. If you had parts of your stomach or of the small intestine removed, the chances of getting B12 deficiency are higher.

If you want to prevent the B12 deficiency from happening to you, the first thing that you need to take care of is your diet. It is highly necessary to include foods with high B12 levels in your daily menu, and it is also important to eat a variety of foods. B12 deficiency can be both treated and prevented with B12 supplements, including oral pills, sublingual pills, intranasal sprays, and intramuscular or subcutaneous injections. While injections are ensuring a better absorption, oral supplements are more popular, but they are efficient too. However, if you think that you suffer from B12 deficiency, you must visit your doctor immediately. Do not try to treat it on your own, because your doctor will know what course of treatment to give you. Detected in time, B12 deficiency is perfectly curable and it can be treated in a short amount of time.

B-12 deficiency is more common than many people think. However, because many of the early and moderate symptoms are things that many people take as a fact of living in the modern world, it can go undetected and become worse until severe action must be taken. The most common warning signs to look out for are tiredness, irritability, inability to concentrate or a reduction in mental abilities, and even depression. Many of these symptoms align with sleep deprivation to some degree and also with depression and bi-polar disorders. This means that it is very important to keep a close eye on your body.

As the deficiency goes on more and worse symptoms will likely be noticeable. Some of these include things such as sleep disturbances, true bi-polar disorder (which has been linked to deficiency through heredity), and even psychosis in extreme cases. Other physiological symptoms may occur but generally it is the psychological effects that are most noticeable because of the damage to nerve cells that a lack of B-12 can cause.

Alzheimer’s has also been linked to B-12 deficiency, but it may or may not be directly related. In order to accurately identify a deficiency, not only the B-12 levels must be checked, but other compounds in the body that work in tandem should be tested as well. The lasting symptoms of B-12 range from nothing at all to severe, irreversible, nerve damage and loss of memory or other psychological effects.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is a condition in which there is an insufficient intake of the vitamin B12. B12 is vitamin crucial to the creation of red blood cells. These red blood cells are what is used to carry oxygen throughout your body. B12 deficiency means that your body cannot adequately create these red blood cells and can lead to anemia, making you feel week, tired, and fatigued. This condition is serious and can also cause severe damage to your body including degeneration of the spinal cord and other serious complications.

B12 is a vitamin that comes from eating meat, eggs, milk, and cheese. The B12 vitamins within these foods are absorbed by your stomach and your intestines. A B12 deficiency occurs whenever your digestive system is not able to absorb these vitamins. This often occurs if you are not ingesting foods with B12 like those who are on a vegan or sometimes vegetarian diet, if you have a condition that prevents your body from digesting this food properly including Crohn’s disease, a parasite, or pernicious anemia. B12 deficiency can also occur if you have had surgery that removes part of your stomach or intestine.

The symptoms of B12 deficiency begin mild and include a feeling of weakness, lightheaded, pale skin, red tongue, bleeding gums, weight loss, sick to your stomach, or diarrhea or constipation. Over time, these symptoms increase and include a numbness and tingling in fingers and toes, depress, and a poor sense of balance. If for any reason you feel you may have a B12 deficiency, it is important to add B12 supplements to your diet immediately.
